No sugar, no problem

These past few days I, along with my wife who helped me test to know it would help me, decided I needed to go off of sugar.  To most this would seem like a huge letdown and be overcome with the thought of "I will never taste good food again."  However, in all honesty, so far I do not miss sugar and I am discovering that there is indeed life after sugar.

I will admit there is still one thing that I eat that has sugar, that is Greek yogurt, Fred Meyer brand.  It is only because the benefits are too great to pass up on.  With that said, it is funny just how much healthier you can be when eliminating sugar.  Also just how many less carbs you are going to consume.

The first thing that is important to note I do not recommend and will not myself use any of the Aspartame to sweeten any of my food.  You might as well dump in a cup of sugar into everything you eat, it would be healthier.  Instead of using crap like that, that has been found to cause cancer among other things, I prefer to use stevia and xylotal.

Both of these are natural products, not chemically altered, and have been found to have not side effects (unless you are a dog).  Back to the point, cutting sugar has really helped me have an easier time to cut the carbs in my diet.  It has also made me feel better and I have noticed that a rash on my arm that I have had for years is slowly starting to fade away farther than ever before.

In the next few days I will post some great recipes that you will sit there going, wait, I can have that even without sugar?

For now however it is important to know just how bad sugar is for you.  Alright, let me back up just a little bit, it is not bad for you in moderation, however with the amount that is put into our foods today and the amount of sugar that is being consumed on a daily basis, sugar is extremely dangerous.  Did you know that most people eat up to 500 calories a day in just pure sugar?  Think about that coke or even worse mountain due you had for lunch.  Did you bother to see the amount of sugar in just one 20 ounce bottle?  Think of this, in most 20 ounce soda drinks there are about 16 teaspoons of sugar in them, yummy.

Not only do we have to worry about the calories it adds to our diets, but it is important to also think about the fact that sugar is addictive.  Tell me you can't just eat one just one whopper?  Nope, it starts with one followed by two, three, the box, then a ride to the store to buy a few more.

So sugar is addictive, and can be a huge calorie increase, it can also be very dangerous for your blood including in kids.  Sugar is a simple carbohydrate.  It digests quickly and goes straight to the blood stream, rising your glucose levels and causing your pancreas to work overtime to get the sugar out of your blood and into energy.  On top of all of that it has been linked to one of the big reasons our kids are having such an obesity problem.  I know sugar was a huge problem for me.

Do yourself a favor, try to really cut the amount of sugar in your life, it'll help you lose weight, cut calories, keep your blood sugars down, cut those crappy carbs out of your diet, and make you feel so much better!
